When do classes run? All the time!  Classes open Sept. 1 each year and end on Aug. 31 the following year.  Enroll in a course anytime and work on your own schedule - just make sure you can complete before next Aug. 31!

Is there an application?  No.

Are there additional program costs? No.  The full cost is $850 per course.  There are no textbook costs. 

Can I pay by a purchase order (PO)? Yes, please contact bsimon@ucsd.edu with the subject line "CS - Supplementary Authorization Purchase Order" for more information.

Are there synchronous meetings I need to attend?    No.  Classes are completely self-paced.  There are no meetings of any kind (in-person or virtual).  These classes are designed for the busy life of a teacher.

Do I have to complete all 4 courses in a year? No.  You enroll in each course individually and work at your own pace.  Just remember that each course closes on Aug 31.  Ask Dr. Simon for advice if needed.

How do I get help if I need it? You can reach out to the professor and/or others taking the classes via our google group: cs4teachers-g@ucsd.edu. That said, the courses have been designed to provide all necessary support and information as you go along.  But Dr. Simon is always happy to schedule a phone or zoom chat to answer any questions you may have! 

Who teaches the classes?  All courses have been designed and are taught by Dr. Beth Simon, PhD in Computer Science, Professor in Education Studies.  Beth has been supporting CS teachers in San Diego County for 15 years, co-led the development of the California State CS standards, leads the (free) CS+Elementary curriculum, and is an expert in online, interactive course design.  What makes Beth the most proud about these courses is that teachers find them fun and packed with useful things!

How do I get my California Computer Science Supplementary Authorization? These courses are designed to meet the requirements of both the Introductory (multiple-subject holder) and Specific (single-subject holder) supplementary authorizations.  That said, if you have prior CS coursework - you may not need ALL of these classes!  Contact Dr. Simon via the google group to get advice.    When you are ready, Dr. Simon will provide you with paperwork to support your application for the Supplementary Authorization.
